Under the theme “Nurturing a Vibrant Postgraduate Environment,” the University of Zululand (UNIZULU) recently held a postgraduate induction at King Bhekuzulu Hall.
This induction was intended to welcome incoming postgraduate students and provide them with the knowledge they need to start their studies in both the academic and social environments.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation Professor Nokuthula Kunene welcomed everyone warmly and opened the induction. She expressed gratitude to the new postgraduate students for selecting UNIZULU. “Welcome to the University of Zululand, especially to our new postgraduate students. I think you’ve already heard about the success of our previous postgraduates who work as academics, a number of whom are specialists in industry as well as in the government space. We expect the same of you after you complete your postgraduate degree at the University of Zululand,” Prof Kunene shared.
More than 120 students attended the induction in person, the majority of whom were master’s candidates, while 15 more participated virtually. Students were given a tour of the campus, including the library, postgraduate library, ICT, the Research and Innovation Office, and research laboratories as part of their induction.
The director of research and innovation in the Research and Innovation Office Prof Byron Brown enlightened postgraduate students on where to access the research proposal guide, manuals, templates, and rubrics. He also highlighted the importance of the research proposal, thereby sharing tips on how to draft one.
“The University has alumni all over the world in many disciplines and fields. The global status of the University gives immediate global recognition once you complete your studies, so we expect you as the incoming postgraduates to safeguard the rich tradition and the reputation of the University throughout your studies,” expressed Prof Brown.
